How the Activity Works:

Students begin by using a visible light spectrum chart to calculate the wavelength of different colors of light. Next, using the light equation and the speed of light, they calculate the frequency of each color. Finally, students apply frequency and Planck's constant to calculate the energy carried by each color of light.

Students will also color the spectrum as part of the activity. I have my students complete their calculations on a separate sheet of notebook paper, which they turn in attached to their charts. An answer key is included so you can see exactly what the final product should look like.

Differentiation Built In:

For younger or lower-level students, I provide the color wavelengths directly. For physics students, I have them use the chart to calculate the wavelengths independently, adding an extra layer of challenge. I use this activity in both Chemistry and Physics classes, making it a versatile resource across multiple course levels.
